21:3 ‘At this my body is racked with pain, pangs
seize me, like those of a woman in labour;’
At
various stages in life, but especially in the final years or decades,
ill-health is common. As our bodies wear out our minds can be alive and active.
Situated in a framework that is less agile and more prone to breakdown and repair
we contemplate the final things in life. But, this sense of finality and bodily
decline must never take from our youthfulness in mind and spirit. We have much
to live for. The shorter the time that remains to each of us, the more the quality - and not the quantity of years -matters.
