Isaiah chapter 46: The one constant

46:4  ‘And when you are old, I will still be there, carrying you. When your limbs grow tired, your eyes are weak, And your hair a silvery grey, I will carry you as I always have. I will carry you and save you.’

There is a saying that the only constant is change. That’s true at one level. But, at a deeper level it is also true that there is one constancy – namely that of God’s presence from womb to death and new life is. In this beautiful passage Isaiah reminds the hearers that as we age and ‘grow tired’ God still carries us and saves us.

What consolation and truth in our believing.
