Isaiah chapter 43: Living in the present moment

43:18-19  ‘“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.  See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?.’

Letting go of past hurts and past painful memories is not easy. No matter hard we try the same thought comes back to press in on us again and again. The more we try to get rid of it the more it presses in. Letting the past go takes time and healing. We need to be patient with ourselves and with others.

The best we can do is try to live fully in the present moment surrendering our fears, worries and hurts to God. Rapt attention, here and now, to the person next to us is a healing.

And joy will spring up as a new thing.
