19:19 ‘When they cry out to the Lord because
of their oppressors, he will send them a saviour and defender, and he will rescue them.’
In an
ever troubled world the oppressed cry out for deliverance. It seems to go
unheeded. The salvation, defence and rescue that is held out seems remote notwithstanding
the cries of the poor, the marginalised, the oppressed. In such moments leaders and silent heroes are
born who answer God’s call and give all that others might be free. History is filled with stories of such
heroism. God works through these to
deliver his people. God’s heart is with the poor and the oppressed.
